Bodyshops looking to increase throughput without adding complexity to their refinishing processes are the target for Spies Hecker’s Permasolid Speed-TEC HS Speed Surfacer 5560.

Part of the next-generation Speed-TEC System, the surfacer has been developed around Axalta’s patented Fast Cure Low Energy (FCLE) technology, with an emphasis on reducing process times while maintaining repair quality.

One of its most useful features for busy collision repair facilities is its versatility. Rather than requiring separate products for sanding and wet-on-wet applications, Speed Surfacer 5560 performs both roles.

That potentially means fewer products on the shelf, less complexity for technicians and a more streamlined refinishing process. Adding to that simplicity, the product uses a single hardener for both application methods.

Speed Surfacer 5560 is available in white, grey and black, allowing technicians to select a suitable shade to optimise subsequent colour coverage and support colour accuracy.

However, speed is where the broader Speed-TEC System aims to make its biggest contribution. Spies Hecker says short flash-off times, strong air-drying characteristics and low-temperature curing technology can help move vehicles through the repair process more quickly.

When Speed Surfacer 5560 is incorporated into the complete Speed-TEC process, repair cycle times can be reduced to around 40 minutes, according to Spies Hecker. For high-volume bodyshops, that has the potential to improve spray booth utilisation and create additional capacity without requiring extra infrastructure.

The combination of sanding and wet-on-wet capability is particularly relevant as repairers seek productivity gains across existing facilities. Reducing the number of products and processes required for everyday repairs can also help make workflow more consistent when technicians are handling multiple jobs.

Spies Hecker is also preparing to expand the Speed-TEC range with the introduction of a new clear coat, further developing the system as an efficiency-focused refinishing solution.

For bodyshops balancing repair quality, cycle times and rising operating costs, Speed Surfacer 5560 offers an interesting proposition: simplify the process, reduce processing time and make better use of existing workshop capacity.
