Industry Supplier Representative, Betsy Kemp
BASF, NSW / ACT
Betsy is the first women to win a second Women in Collision award in a different category. She took home best technician as an apprentice back in 2018.Being a Technical Sales Representative in today’s paint world means far more than dropping off product and checking in.
For the first half of 2025, Betsy Kemp was the sole Technical Sales Rep for BASF across Sydney and the ACT — supporting bodyshops, training apprentices and tradespeople, colour matching, troubleshooting and keeping customers moving in a busy and highly technical environment.
That workload alone would test most people. Betsy handled it with consistency and composure.
Her role sees her regularly on shop floors, working directly with technicians, assisting with application techniques, introducing new technologies and helping refine processes. She doesn’t just talk product — she trains it. And she has deliberately invested in her ability to do so, completing a Diploma in Adult Education to strengthen her long-term goal of becoming a TAFE teacher.
Training isn’t an add-on for Betsy. It’s the part of the job she gravitates toward. She is particularly passionate about supporting apprentices and encouraging more women into the trade. Her approach is practical and hands-on — guiding younger technicians through techniques, explaining the “why” behind processes and building confidence alongside skill.
Customers speak highly of her reliability and follow-through. When a shop needs support, she shows up. When a colour match needs refining, she works through it. When a new product or system is introduced, she makes sure the team understands it properly.
Away from work, Betsy balances full-time travel and technical responsibilities with being a single mother to her autistic son — navigating therapy schedules, school commitments and long days on the road. Those close to her describe her as someone who rarely seeks recognition and consistently puts others first.
What comes through most clearly is passion. Passion for product, passion for training and passion for helping shape the next generation of tradespeople.
Her nominator said: "I am sure there are many amazing women being nominated for this award but I can assure you none of them are more deserving as our very modest and loving Betsy."
