AWS has issued an updated welding fume guide after the overwhelming positive feedback of the launch of The Practical Guide to Welding Fume Control in 2021. The updated version for 2022 is bigger and better to give workplaces even clearer and more practical advice that can help to keep welding fume exposure to an acceptable level.

So what's new in the 2022 Practical Guide?

  • A more detailed look at the individual chemicals found within welding fume (health effects, exposure limits etc.)

  • A deeper dive into the pros and cons of the different forms of LEV (Fixed LEV, Portable LEV, & On-Gun Fume Extraction)

  • 4 more pages of content (16-page original has been expanded to 20 pages).

This guide is based on a simple premise - the health risk posed by welding fume is serious, however, keeping welders safe can be straightforward. Consequently, in this guide, we outline the dangers of welding fume and then give the industry actionable and practical guidance based specifically on the welding industry.
