In Compare the Market’s seventh annual Most Searched Cars report, Toyota maintains the number one position, but Tesla continues to grow in online search interest across the planet.

* Toyota was the most searched car brand across the globe but its lead over Tesla is shrinking, with Tesla predicted to take over as early as 2031
After making it into the top three last year, Tesla has maintained its position as Australia’s second most searched car brand, followed by Mazda.
Looking globally, across the 155 countries that were analysed, Tesla continued to chase down Toyota, narrowing the gap as Tesla increased the number of countries where it was the top brand from 29 to 34.
Tesla stayed steady at 64 – the exact same result as last year. While it maintains pole position, Toyota’s lead over the others is shrinking.
Based on the last few years of data, it’s possible that Tesla will replace Toyota as the world’s most searched car brand in 2031.
BYD surged into the rankings for the first time, off the back of its top-selling EVs taking the globe by storm and was the most searched brand in two countries – Uzbekistan and Nepal.
