Judges at the recent Surcar Europe 2021 show, in France, singled out PPG’s technical presentation to receive the prestigious Jury’s Award for Technical Innovation.

Featuring PPG’s innovative digital colour styling platform for the automotive OEM market, the winning presentation provided a detailed insight into the development and capabilities of this transformational technology which helps vehicle designers dramatically accelerate the process of creating new colours. Using exceptionally realistic 3-D modelling, it gives designers an integrated package of tools that allow them to execute and evaluate new colours and effects on a variety of virtual vehicle designs and surfaces. In contrast to the time-consuming conventional colour styling processes, PPG’s digital colour styling platform is both quick and effective, says Sabine Griesbeck, PPG Digital Transformation Technical Manager, who delivered the winning presentation.

“By eliminating the traditional constraints associated with producing and evaluating new colour concepts, PPG is empowering vehicle designers and colour stylists to focus their time and energy on being creative and developing products that will have increased appeal among car buyers around the world.

PPG has also launched a digital styling library featuring a proprietary speed shape that accurately depicts the interaction of colour, geometry and light on a virtual rendering of a vehicle. This tool enables users to download digital colour files that are compatible with industry-standard colour-rendering software. This, in turn, allows design teams to collaborate with PPG experts directly, remotely and in real time. This entirely digital process also offers significant sustainability advantages, including reducing waste, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and the consumption of labour, material and energy.
