Paint & Panel is being informed that some of the new Chinese entrants into the market have little to no repair methods and that parts sourcing can be lengthy. There are now 16 Chinese brands in the marketplace. We hear that BYD have asked Thatcham to assist with repair methods which is commendable. It seems unbelievable that vehicles are being allowed into Australia with no clear methods to repair them - surely it should be part of the Australian Design Rules? Stuart Charity of AAAA who is also on the board of ASRA agrees that there is a scarcity of OEM repair methods from many of the new Chinese entrants. What do you do when you have no clear instructions? You have to guess and we're guessing and that is unacceptable for the repairer, the insurer - who often guarantees the repair - and for the car owner who may get back behind the wheel of a car that hasn't been performed to pre-accident condition. Talking to National Windscreens this week, it's a real issue with windscreen replacements and subsequent calibrations. We are hearing of Chery vehicles that have been in shops for six months or more.
Please email samstreet@yaffa.com.au and let us know if you have had specific problems and we'll compile these issues and send them onto people who can lobby for change.
