While most others would have hung up their spurs long ago, 82 year old Colin Edwards has only recently sold his company GPI on 1 September and he has agreed to stay on for another two years.

Melbourne-based Collins Street Asset Management has bought the automotive, fitness and corporate divisions while Edwards retains the bicycle and abrasives division.

For 54 years, Edwards has been one of the repair industry’s ace truffle hounds for consumables from around the globe  – seeking and finding the next indispensable product that you don’t know how you ever managed without (think plastic wrapping amongst other industry firsts).

Edwards says it is business as usual with not one of the 200 employees leaving and no one new coming into the firm. Edwards is as passionate about his job as when he first started trading as GPI Automotive Products back in 1978 and says he still wakes up every morning excited to go to work.

Edwards will be a guest on the Paint & Panel podcast The Edge later this year to share his impressive industry journey.
