BYD Australia has celebrated the delivery of its 150,000th new energy vehicle, marking another milestone in the Chinese manufacturer's rapid growth since entering the Australian market in late 2022.
The milestone vehicle, a BYD SEAL 6 Touring, was delivered to a young family from Portland, on Victoria's south-west coast, through the company's Warrnambool dealership.
The delivery was particularly significant because it was the family's second BYD purchase within just a few weeks.
The customer, Tiffany, purchased the SEAL 6 Touring after her partner had recently taken delivery of a SEAL Performance sedan.
“The initial purchase experience with the team at BYD Warrnambool was so pleasant and my partner loves his Seal so much that when we took delivery and I saw the Seal 6 Touring in the showroom, I said it's time for me to have my first-ever brand-new car,” Tiffany said.
“The styling of the Seal 6 Touring really appeals to me. We have a young family and the practicality and low-running costs it offers made it an easy decision.”
The milestone was celebrated at BYD Warrnambool, with local community representatives, media and senior BYD Australia executives attending.
BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins said the delivery demonstrated the appeal of the company's expanding range of plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles.
“We're so glad our 150,000th delivery is to someone like Tiffany and her young family. It means we are on the right track with what we're offering Australian customers,” Collins said.
He also highlighted the importance of regional dealerships in supporting the company's continued Australian expansion.
“I'm also delighted that it was one of our recently appointed regional and rural dealers that delivered the 150,000th BYD,” Collins said.
“The vast majority of recently opened BYD sales and service dealerships have been outside of the metro area, deep into regions serving wide communities.”
BYD plans to have more than 150 sales and service dealerships operating across Australia by the end of 2026.
Its expansion includes regional locations such as Noosaville, Mareeba and Marooka in Queensland, Mudgee in New South Wales, Seymour in Victoria, the Barossa in South Australia and Rockingham in Western Australia.
Collins said the focus on expanding regional coverage would continue throughout the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, improving access to BYD vehicles, servicing and customer support beyond metropolitan areas.
