It was great to hear from Rebecca Jenkins of McCarthy Panel Works in Mackay about their expansion plans, especially in a climate where some shops are downsizing.

"We started out the year with the promise of big things and now here we are around halfway through the construction of our new paint facility."The first stage of the project was to prepare the ground and due to regulation set by council this included the raising of the block by over 1.5m. This was a huge job that was completed inside the allocated time frame even given the few minor rain delays.
The construction stage had a minor setback as the design had to  be recertified after a few changes were made. However everything was in full swing last week with the pits for the booth and prep areas being laid first and the floor going down this week.
"This building will allow for an expansion of approximatley half again our current facility size, bringing the total under roof area to just under 1000m2"We will be incorporating a new Junair Spray Booth, two prep bays and a paint mixing room, this is expected to be installed around May.
The building will incorporate latest LED lighting throughough and we will continue to use AkzoNobel Sikkens Ecological water paint," Jenkins said. "The end of phase 3 will see a total upgrade of the hardstand areas with completely sealed driveways and car parking areas, and the installation of an upgraded detail bay.

We look forward to seeing the finished paintshop.
