With the brand’s market entry confirmed last month, GAC has now released Australian specifications, set across two trim levels, for the brand’s all-electric medium-sized SUV, AION V.
Offered in both premium and luxury packages, GAC says the AION V combines progressive design, advanced powertrains, leading safety technology and high-quality levels, offering Australians an alternative that dispels many of the pains and stresses formerly seen in EV ownership. Superior range and safe battery technologies are at the core of this model’s proposition.
Selling over two million vehicles in China last year, GAC is a pioneer in new energy mobility, underpinned by decades of in-house R&D and collaborations with leading global marques such as Toyota and Honda. The AION V is a standout model within GAC’s broader portfolio and the product of this collective innovation.
Underpinning the AION V is GAC’s proprietary 400V electric architecture. Paired with a densely packed 75.26kw/h battery and treated to structural lightweighting measures – thanks to the extensive use of aluminium – the AION V can achieve 510km range (WLTP) on the open road. Fast charging is also key to the AION V’s appeal, with the model supporting fast charging from 30 per cent to 80 per cent SOC in just 16 minutes. The model’s highly efficient 150kW motor, which can deliver up to 210Nm torque, and heat-pump air-conditioning system further add to the AION V’s exceptional power efficiency.
While these technical achievements demonstrate the AION V’s real-world capability, safety remains paramount for GAC. At its core is the innovative ‘Magazine Battery 2.0’, a patented GAC technology engineered for exceptional durability and fire resistance – even when subjected to extreme conditions including over-exaggerated twist and impact tests. This breakthrough provides a new level of confidence for EV owners. Compatibility with i-Size – the latest international standard for child seat compatibility, further reinforces the vehicle’s standing as a smart and secure choice for Australian families.
The AION V backs up its technical mastery with globally influenced design expertise. Thanks to GAC’s global design network, with studios based in Milan, LA, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the AION V delivers a distinct design that stands out against its counterparts.
Externally, the AION V projects a sense of raw, natural power, blending muscular proportions with modern sophistication. Its distinct “dragon claw” lighting signatures front and rear, bold waistline, and pronounced wheel arches give the SUV a confident, athletic stance that underscores its advanced capability.
In contrast, the AION V’s interior offers a calming, minimalist environment inspired by the flow of a natural waterfall, centred around the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enabled 14.6” central screen. All key touchpoints are cloaked in soft materials, while an expansive panoramic roof – equipped with electric sunscreen – and 4mm acoustic glass ensures the interior is cossetted from intrusive road noise and mechanical whir.
Interior space has been maximised, offering rear legroom comparable to luxury SUVs and class-leading among new energy competitors, with up to 1.1m available. Both front seats can be fully reclined to create a queen bed environment to allow comfortable short naps and overnight stops alike, while air conditioning vents in the b-pillars ensures the vehicle can maintain a comfortable climate in this setting.
At the rear, the boot’s smart sensor opening feature allows owners to open the rear loading space by standing with the key in proximity for three-seconds. The AION V offers impressive interior loading capacity, putting up to 978-litres at your disposal with the rear seats folded flat. This ensures that, for example, your prized 2m surfboard can be safely stored inside the vehicle, further adding to the AION V’s practicality.
Customers choosing the Luxury-spec model will enjoy one of the AION V’s most talked-about features – perfect for Australian summers and beach trips alike. Hidden within the central armrest is a 6.6-litre refrigerator, capable of holding up to 12 cans and maintaining a steady 4°C while using just 0.5 kWh of electricity over 24 hours. Versatile in every sense, it can also cool to –15°C or warm to 50°C, ideal for keeping Golden Gaytimes or takeaway coffees at the perfect temperature. Both driver and front passenger further benefit from eight-point massage seats, while heating and ventilation remain standard across both trim levels.
“We’ve already delivered the AION V in over 20 countries worldwide, and we’re delighted that Australians can now experience this exceptional, feature-rich SUV for themselves,” deputy general manager GAC Australia, Cheney Liang, said.
“Whether choosing the premium or luxury model, every AION V represents the very best of modern electric powertrain technology, combining this with the safety, comfort and everyday practicality that truly make a difference in Australian life.”.
Pricing and warranty information for the AION V will be made available upon the brand’s market launch later in November.
