WIA (Welding Industries of Australia) has launched Miller Spectrum Plasma Cutter range.
The powerful 240V, inverter-based, plasma cutting machines produce “best in class” results and performance for cutting capacity and cutting speed, says WIA. They provide a lightweight, compact and portable solution for both on-site and workshop-based cutting applications.
The range, which includes the Spectrum 500i, a 30 Amp system, and the Spectrum 700i, a 40 Amp system, has been designed and tested to perform under the toughest conditions to deliver on performance and reliability.
John Gorey, WIA’s Miller Product Manager, says the machines have been designed to meet the needs and demands of the professional welder and tradesman.
“We recently demonstrated the Spectrum 500i and 700i machines to a number of welding professionals in the field and the feedback was very positive,” he said.
“The Spectrum machines are being well received as they provide low cost solutions with high-class performances and results.
“These are extremely user-friendly machines, and while they are physically small, making them very portable, they are exceptionally powerful,” Gorey said.
The machine’s output is controlled through a “stepless” infinitely variable amperage control, which allows finer output adjustments to be made for individual applications.
“The cutting arc is also much finer and more concentrated than others on the market, allowing users to carry out more detailed work when required,” he said.
“These generator-friendly machines also provide an excellent solution for those workshops or sites that experience power fluctuations; up to plus or minus 15%.
“The machines will continue to provide Peak Performance through their in-built LVC (Line Voltage Compensation) capability, which provides a big advantage for rural users who often suffer from poor power supply,” he said.
Both the Spectrum 500i and 700i machines feature the innovative Auto-Refire Technology, which automatically controls the pilot arc when cutting expanded metal or multiple pieces of metal.
The pilot arc will switch in and out as fast as needed when cutting expanded metal and provides maximum power for cutting thicker metal – all automatically.
Additional features of the Spectrum 500i and 700i machines include wind tunnel technology which prevents abrasive dust and particles from damaging internal components, plus a fan-on-demand cooling system that only operates when needed, reducing power consumption and the chance of contaminants being drawn into the machine.
For optimum cutting performance, additional features of the Spectrum 700i plasma machine include an automatic air regulation unit that automatically compensates for input pressure variation to provide constant recommended torch pressure; automatic consumable protection which detects consumable type installed and adjusts gas pressure, eliminating the need for a manual regulator, and auto postflow which calculates the length of postflow time based on the amount of cutting time to optimise consumable life and eliminate excessive air usage.
