Belmont Smash wins MTA award

Belmont Smash Repairs has won the MTA ‘Country Collision Repairer of the Year’ for 2003. The award covers all of NSW except the Sydney metropolitan area. This is the first time the award has been won by a Newcastle or Lake Macqaurie Collision Repairer.
Owner Michael Cook, who has been running the shop for 25 years, puts the win down to a ‘relentless pursuit of perfection’ tempered by constant and controlled growth.
The shop recently re-located to larger premises at 26 Bluebell Street, Belmont where it claims to be the greenest and cleanest repair facility in the Lake Macquarie area.
‘My staff and I believe that the secret to our business is the ability to embrace the latest repair techniques and to exceed our client’s expectations in terms of high quality repairs and refinish’ Cook says. ‘Belmont Smash Repairs maintains and strives to improve excellence in our customer service while retaining a competitive edge. We believe that being a member of the MTA generates business confidence, as we are able to offer an MTA Gold Lifetime Warranty on collision repairs’
Services include claims assistance, instant digital assessment, and liaison with assessors to negotiate the best deal for clients, both private and corporate. Other services include valet Belmont repairs a wide range of cars, including being the only authorised repairer in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area for Lexus.
During the uncertainty in the collision repair industry Belmont Smash Repairs has embarked on developing different sources of revenue. It
has diversified into the refinishing and repair of sailing craft, where its designs and refinish have been highly commended by sailing committees and are now exported worldwide.
Vehicle detailing is in Belmont’s future business plan. A trainee detailer has joined the company so that the detailing workshop is no longer a consumable but a viable component of the organisation.
The day at Belmont begins with meeting of all staff to set the direction for a productive and calm working environment. Estimating managers are kept in touch with achievable cycle times during the meetings.
