With the ever increasing number of European and prestige cars entering the Australian market, 3M saw the need to improve its soft edge foam masking tape.

From its launch, the tape has been the first choice of many painters in the Australian market.

However, modern vehicles, in particular European models, have deeper and narrower apertures, making traditional foam masking techniques difficult or impossible.

To meet this need, 3M has developed 3M Soft Edge Foam Masking Tape Plus, which has a patented tubular design that either expands or compresses to fill the majority of apertures.

It is designed with an offset adhesive bead, ensuring the adhesive line is positioned well away from the aperture to optimise the soft edge performance.

It is also still suited to taping onto styling or swage lines to create a break for blending purposes, and can be applied to either the panel or the moving part.

"At 3M, our aim is to continuously launch new products and improve others," 3M Automotive Aftermarket marketing manager, Steven Perez, said.

"We were the originators of the soft edge foam masking concept, but we know that all products can be improved.

"Following extensive development and testing, we implemented design improvements which have resulted in a new advanced version of the original Soft Edge Foam Masking Tape."

3M Soft Edge Foam Masking Tape Plus:

* Fits broadest range of modern aperture widths

* Easy masking of A-Post (traditionally a very difficult area to mask)

* Improved paint edge

* Suits modern close-fit body panels

* Universal design allows application to fixed or moving part

3M Soft Edge Foam Masking Tape Plus is available in 21mm x 49m.
