President Body Repairs of Blacktown in Sydney has been awarded Level 2 (Beyond Compliance) Green Stamp Accreditation, setting the benchmark for fellow body repairers to go above and beyond in order to reduce their environmental impact and save money.
President Body Repairs is now able to communicate its environmental achievements with its customers and also be nominated for the Green Stamp Plus Environmental Award at the upcoming MTA state awards in September.
The director of President Body Repairs, Glenn Jones, a dedicated MTA member, was more than happy to showcase his superbly organised and 'green' workshop during a recent visit from MTA's Sarah Walton for a voluntary Envirocheck.
The business successfully met all criteria in Level 1, which means the business is actively complying with environmental legislation, and passed Level 2.
The workshop is currently focusing on further improvements and recommendations from the MTA to advance onto Level 3 (Best Practice) Accreditation, according to Walton.
Examples of criteria items President Body Repairs is currently practicing to run ‘green’ workshop:
• Staff are made aware of their environmental responsibility through training
• Recycled thinner is used to clean spray guns
• Sanders have dust vacuum systems
• High volume, low pressure or airless spray guns are used
• Paints are mixed in a dedicated paint room with a filtered exhaust
• Low emission paints are used
• Spray booth filters are changed as per manufacturer's specifications
• Large quantities of hazardous liquids are stored in a bunded area.
