Adelaide Motor Body Repairs
AAMI/AP&P AUTOBODY REPAIRER OF THE YEAR REGIONAL WINNER (SMALL SHOP) SA
David and Mark Siciliano have taken the next step in the family business, now running the enterprise following their father Pat’s decision to spend more time fishing.
The two brothers, along with their mother Anna, run Adelaide Motor Body Repairs in Adelaide’s north-eastern suburb of Newton, which turns over some 10 to 12 cars a week.
David, a panelbeater, and Mark, a qualified spray painter, have taken the business to a new level after a major renovation to the building in 2008.
These changes included some major structural work including demolishing a wall in the middle of the building, a lunch room on the mezzanine, new reception and office area and hours of planning to gain the best possible floor plan to carry out efficient work flow and quality work.
This major renovation was rewarded by winning last year’s Paint & Panel SA Regional New Shop category.
The shop has a CMC booth and a fully down-drafted prep bay and the mixing room features a Glasurit paint system. These were newly installed in 2008.
The prep bay is fully equipped with railed infrared banks of heaters and the booth is lined with removable sheeting to provide interior booth protection. This is replaced every six months.
The shop is also equipped with a Globaljig Super Rotax, a full range of welding equipment including a Pro Spot i4 inverter spot welder and a Uni-mig 180. There is also the mandatory Easybeat dent puller.
The business has one full-time panelbeater and one contractor and two spray painters. One of those spray painters, co-director Mark, has won several awards including the 2009 apprentice of the year.
His brother David dismantles, assembles and completes small repairs as well as does the detailing and estimating, with quoting done using QCQ. Anna, who has over 20 years’ experience, manages the heart of the reception.
The business has been a member of Master Collision Group, which has assisted in developing some of the business practices.
Through this membership Adelaide Motor Body Repairs has met its OH&S requirements using the Monit system.
Much of the equipment and consumables are sourced through SA Colour and the company uses Wurth plastic products. When it comes to gaining data for repairing modern motor vehicles, the company has a relationship with Adelaide Motors for BMW data and Solitaire for Audi.
Insurers that offer work to Adelaide Motor Body Repairs include Allianz, RAA and CGU, and like so many others that have a quality business in Adelaide and its suburbs, the shop has drawn business throughout repeat and recommended customers.
Adelaide Motor Body Repairs may be small, but it is exceptionally well run.
