SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, has announced the winners of the New Products Showcase Awards at the 2013 SEMA Show, currently being held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event recognises ‘the most cutting-edge automotive products either on the market or about to hit the market’. More than 2,000 new products were submitted for consideration in 16 different categories. Products were judged on criteria that included superiority of innovation, technical achievement, quality and workmanship, consumer appeal and marketability.
The 2013 New Product Award winners for the Collision Repair and Refinish Product category are:
Winner: 3M, 3M Body Protection System (BPS)
The new 3M Body Protection System reinvents textured finishes on vehicles for rock protection and sound deadening by helping repair technicians and painters spray low viscosity textured finishes with fine, medium, coarse and splattered patterns. The technology includes the 3M Accuspray HGP Spray Gun with pressurised inlet and 3M PPS Type H/O Mini Pressure Cup, the 3M Rocker Protector Pouch and 3M Paintable Undercoating Pouch.
Runner up: Creative Autobody Solutions, ABS plastic spray out cards
The ABS TruColor plastic spray out cards helps professional automotive painters match bumper colours to adjacent steel body panels. According to the Creative Autobody Solutions website, the static in the ABS-plastic bumper ‘causes the metallic particulates in metallic paints to react and therefore create a different finish than metallic paint on a cardboard or metal spray out card.’
Runner up: Shelwes Tools & Body, ShelWes Automatic Contour Sander
The ShelWes Automatic Contour Sander automatically conforms to both concave and convex curves, as well as any type of irregular surface. It is engineered to attach to standard power sanders and was developed by experienced auto body professionals.
