The man who help steer Toyota Australia's success, John Conomos AO, is joining Deloitte's Automotive Advisory Board this month.

Deloitte manufacturing partner, Damon Cantwell says this appointment will further consolidate the work Deloitte is doing in the automotive industry, particularly in helping Australian clients to understand and capitalise on emerging opportunities in Asia.

"Mr Conomos brings to the Board over forty years' experience in the Australian automotive industry. He is acutely aware of how a redefined automotive industry will emerge in Asia after the global downturn, and what this will mean for Australian companies. His appointment is a welcome addition and fills the vacancy that was left open by the Hon. Tim Fischer since his appointment as Ambassador to the Holy See".

Conomos, a widely respected statesman in the Australian automotive industry, spent a large part of his career with Toyota. In 2008 he retired as chairman emeritus and principal policy adviser at Toyota, where he had long-standing positions of executive chairman Toyota, Australia and managing officer of Toyota Motor Corporation.

He was recently appointed as special automotive envoy by Senator the Hon. Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Science and Research, to fulfill an ambassadorial role in the Asian markets to open doors, and provide intelligence back to government and industry.

He joins current Automotive Advisory Board members, Barry Comben and Lloyd Gosling, AM.
