Testing DeVilbiss spray guns
BenchtestTesting DeVilbiss spray guns
DeVilbiss has always manufactured quality spray guns. Its latest guns are no exception as they have a recommendation from each major paint company.
The GTi
The GTi gravity spray gun is suitable for use with both water based and solvent based coating materials. The design uses EPA compliant atomising. DeVilbiss 'Trans-Tech' technology is used to reduce overspray and improve coating efficiency. Nozzles and Needles are manufactured in stainless steel. Tips are from .85mm ? 2.5mm and the gun has a common needle for 1.2mm ? 1.6mm tips.
Another advantage of this spray gun is it has guarded or replaceable threads. For example, the needle adjustment screw has a replaceable thread insert, which means if the thread strips you just replace the insert. Other guns may have the thread tapped into the gun body which means if the threads are stripped, you will have to replace the whole spray gun.
The GTi features a separate air control fitted to the base of the gun which gives you an exact pressure at the spray gun head. Air pressure required is 2 bar or 29 P.S.I. There are no paint trap points on the gun which makes it great for metallic paint. Parts are available separately. This is a valuable feature because it allows you to replace any part as required. It has been a problem with some spray guns that individual parts were hard to procure.
The GTi has an anodised finish for ease of cleaning. It is very easy to use. Interestingly, when we tried out the multi use set-up the paint has hungry looking appearance when it was applied, but it flowed out to a good finish. We were also able to apply the paint very wet without the paint running.
The PRi
PRi primer gun is coloured green for identification purposes. It is also a quality gun which is used for primer application. The tips are 1.6mm ? 2.5mm and it has a common needle and air cap. Where some shops may use a cheaper all purpose gun for primers, the PRi proves that it is better to use a quality gun made specifically for primers.
Both DeVilbiss spray guns do not need any special tools for servicing.
In summing up, if you want a quality spray gun, give the GTi Gravity Spray gun and the PRi gravity primer Spray gun a trial. You will be impressed with the result.
