Fastest clear coat
The Paint ShopThe latest addition to the DuPont range of clearcoats is claimed to be the world?s fastest air-dry clear. ChromaClear HC 7600S, with its fast flash off, low overspray and rapid 1.5 hour cure, allows the busy bodyshop to achieve a high quality, durable clearcoat finish in record time, making a significant contribution to improved productivity in the workshop and faster turnaround times.
Designed for spot and panel repairs where airflow is less than ideal, this clearcoat delivers excellent gloss with amazingly short dust-free times. The 'Hyper Cure' technology that is the basis of the HC 7600S formulation, produces a deep, fast cure that allows assembly (or buff out, if necessary) in just 90 minutes. With this kind of cure time, shops can even move the vehicle outside after just 2 hours air-dry at 25° C. For even faster throughput, baking at 48° C for 10 minutes produces the same result. Either way, HC 7600S facilitates clear application, assembly and delivery all in the same day.
Three activators are available for different application temperatures using a simple 4:1 mix ratio. Although designed for spot and panel repairs this clearcoat can also be used to reduce application and drying times on larger repair areas. The addition of 2350S flexible additive, used mainly for bumper repair work, can also be used to enhance the flow and levelling properties of HC 7600S and extend its pot-life for application under high humidity and high temperature conditions.
Used instead of a baking clear, HC 7600S produces good gloss up to four times faster than baking, and further enhances energy usage cost savings by eliminating booth time. Used with a baking clear, shops can choose to air-dry and bake in tandem, increasing throughput and eliminating booth backlogs.

:Rianbow in a can An exciting new colour shade has been added to the well-known Exclusive Line range from Standox. "Crystal Rainbow" makes cars sparkle like precious stones. The spectacular 3D effect is achieved by means of special pigments which, when exposed to light, shine in all the colours of the rainbow.
Apart from the amazing visual effect, this innovative product is also highly versatile. The new material is completely clear and can be applied on top of almost any OEM coating. No matter whether it is applied to solid, metallic or even special-effect paints, Crystal Rainbow creates an extraordinary and an eye-catching finish. In most cases, two spray passes are sufficient to achieve a great result.
While Crystal Rainbow can be used to enhance any basic colour, the dramatic effect is particularly striking on dark substrates. Many nuances of dark blue, green, red, as well as grey and anthracite shades, are perfectly suited for an elegant Crystal Rainbow finish. And on a black substrate it produces a veritable fireworks display of colour.
The effect is best seen in direct sunlight, which brings out the full effect of Crystal Rainbow.
As with all previous Exclusive Line products, this new Standox product will be produced in a limited edition and marketed through carefully selected bodyshops and refinishers only.
To demonstrate Crystal Rainbow to full effect refinishers can be provided with a transparent film finished with "Crystal Rainbow" on the back. This film can simply be placed on the vehicle body to give the customer a vivid impression of the individual Crystal Rainbow effect on his car. One glance is enough to know whether the colour shade can be enhanced or not.

:Glarusit launches waterborne with BMW
@Dci:Glasurit has launched its waterborne paint system in Australia in partnership with BMW's Bodyshop in Melbourne. The paint company, which is part of BASF, promises a paint system that is as close to the current original manufacturing process, whilst doing the right thing by the environment. BMW Bodyshop in Melbourne has taken an innovative step by adopting Glasurit 90 Line waterborne basecoat systems for all BMW repairs.
Although new to Australia, the Glasurit product is one of the most trialled and tested waterborne systems in the world today.
BAST believes waterborne technology is the future of automotive refinish paints as manufacturers look towards reducing emissions into the atmosphere. This is achieved by making ?water? the major ingredient of the paint basecoat, rather then solvents.
It is widely expected that government will pass legislation requiring the reduction of VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions, as has been the case in both Europe and North America. As market leading innovators the BMW Bodyshop has already upgraded its equipment and fully trained all staff in conjunction with BASF.
For BMW, the immediate benefits of using this technology have been:
* Water is the main ingredient as opposed to toxic solvents, reducing VOC emissions into the atmosphere.
* Less volatile waste on completion of repair.
* 30% reduction of VOC emissions into the atmosphere.
* BMW Bodyshop, Melbourne is the first bodyshop in the BMW network to fully utilise waterborne technology in Australia.
* The waterborne product is supplied by BASF, a leading German chemical company which has been awarded for this innovation.
* Endorsed by BMW worldwide.
?At BMW Bodyshop we pride ourselves on the quality of repair we carry out and by using water borne technology we can truly return the car to its original condition? says Robert Frame, BMW Bodyshop operations manager.
Since introducing the water-borne technology BMW Bodyshop has managed to reduce its VOC emissions by 30 per cent.
?We have reduced solvent fumes, meaning cleaner air and a healthier work environment for our employees," Frame said. "The waterborne paints are non-flammable and contain considerably less toxic solvents than conventional basecoat paints.?

New anti static spray suit A new ?hi-life? anti static spray suit has become the latest addition to the extensive PPG Plus range of consumables aimed at the refinish industry. Made from densely woven fabric, consisting of 98 per cent polyester continuous multi-filament yarn blended with two per cent carbon fibre electro-conductive yarn, it is designed to dissipate any static electricity that may build up as the wearer moves around the spray booth. In addition to minimising the risk of electrostatic build up and discharge this specially designed spray suit is totally lint free, thus eliminating potential paint contamination problems. Since many technicians spend long periods wearing a spray suit, comfort was a priority in the design process. Importantly, the innovative new fabric of the ?hi-life? spray suit is not only anti static but also breathable. Combined with the vented back and underarms this significantly reduces the potential problem of heat stress whilst working in the booth. The suit's ultra weight contributes to the comfort factor, as does the separate hood which allows for free movement of the head. Plenty of thought has gone into the convenience features too, which include a two-way zip up front, lower leg zips to make it easy to put them on over boots, a back pocket and a spray gun loop. Sturdy, high quality construction ensures maximum durability for the ?hi-life? spray suit. They are reusable and machine washable many times over. Available in sizes medium, large, X-large, XX-large, the suits can be purchased through PPG Plus distributors.
: : 3M Paint Preparation System
The 3M Paint Preparation System (PPS) that replaces traditional paint mixing cups and filters and drastically reduces the amount of solvent required for gun cleaning, now comes in two cup sizes. The original, and still popular size is 650 ml, but 3M has responded to demand with a larger, 850 ml cup.
The 3M Paint Preparation System is a unique, closed paint system which eliminates the need for separate mixing cups and filters. The paint is mixed in a liner bag which marries to a direct filter and is then mounted on the spray gun with a dedicated adapter. As the freshly filtered paint is dispensed, the liner bag collapses, allowing the spray gun to function at any angle. Liner bag and filter are disposable, leaving only the spray gun and adapter to be cleaned. PPS is therefore a cleaner, faster system, safe from outside contamination and offering considerable time and solvent savings on gun and parts cleaning.
