Global company Ficosa has launched its latest technological instalment into the market with the arrival of an intelligent rearview mirror (IRMS).

The system has been developed through an integrated display in the structure of the interior rearview mirror that relays images from the camera located at the back of the vehicle.

The IRMS is the first product developed in an alliance between Ficosa and Panasonic which feature's the company's LCD screen also located in the interior rearview mirror.

Other key features have been geared towards enhancing safety, with the mirror doubling the traditional rearward field of vision to 50 degrees in a bid to reduce blind spots.

The mirror has also been built to reduce the effects of glare and increase visbility in low lit areas and roads.

The IRMS has also been developed to include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that collects data about surrounding drivers and vehicles, feeding information directly to the driver.

Ficosa are now in the process of working with car manufacturers to roll out the IRMS with regulation set to be approved in Europe by mid-2016.

The approval could see the roll out of the system integrated into the manufacturing industry as early as 2018.
