Andrea McCarthy is neck deep in the industry. Not only does she run McCarthy Panel Works in Mackay with husband Craig but she is heavily involved with MTAQ, I-CAR and ACIA.
How did you get started in the industry?
Married into it, however I quickly adopted the industry as my own and now enjoy the challenges we face and the changes that are coming.
What do you do now?
I have spent considerable time, building the business internally so that I can focus on broader industry initiatives.
What do you most like about the industry?
Being allowed to instigate a creative approach to long standing issues faced in the industry, by collaboration with peak bodies such as the MTAQ, I-CAR and ACIA.
What do you most dislike about the industry?
That most people prefer to focus on the negatives, without coming up with solutions.
Who do you most admire in the industry?
Interesting question, My husband Craig is definitely on the list. His ability to adapt to industry change is pretty inspiring. His commitment to quality, and his desire to do right by the client is admirable.
I am inspired by people who can step up and get the job done, remove obstacles, and create change for the better.
Cars! tell us - first car, current car, dream car?
My first Car was a Corolla – Craig and I were dating and he painted it Pink (hot Pink). Knowing what I know now I cannot believe he did that.
My next car was a SS Commodore Loved it !! It sounded divine.. I had to get out of the Commodore when the council added traffic calming roundabouts in my street. Too many bumper bar replacements
I now drive a bright red Hilux and I love it, I can drive over the traffic calmers.
My dream car is an Audi S5, I have a client that has brought his black and red one in a few times now so I’m well acquainted with her.
