PPG and Williams Martini Racing have commemorated their fifteenth year as partners with the opening round of the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship in Melbourne.

PPG Refinish branding manager Patricia Phountoucos said the brand saw the partnership as an ideal place for the brand to showcase its product and brand image to customers.

“The world of Formula One racing is the ideal place for us to showcase our advanced coatings technology, alongside our commitment to solving our customers' challenges.

The company highlighted their paint system which removes the need for an additional lacquer coat which allowed Williams to reduce weight added during the paint process by 48%.

Williams chief technical officer Paddy Lowe says the technology allows the team to save weight in key areas during the development of its F1 cars.

“We are constantly striving to save weight, and it has been a focus in the development of the FW41, so PPG's assistance and innovation in this area is of significant value to us.

“The opportunity to produce faster lap times is increased with the amount of weight we save in the application of our paint.”
