Following hot on the heels of the rebrand to NWG (formerly National Windscreens) and a recent expansion into Alice Springs, NWG has announced another major development on the Apple Isle of Tasmania.

NWG has welcomed Action Auto Glass, with locations in Burnie and Devonport, along with sister company Action Auto Sliders in Lawnton, Brisbane. Action Auto Glass is the largest auto glass business in Tasmania.

The acquisition settles this Friday, July 25, 2025.

This latest acquisition has grown the NWG footprint substantially to a network of 16 owned branches, and is the fifth acquirement by the group since investment by boutique corporate advisory firm Nash Advisory.

Action Auto Glass began in 1985 as Ability Windscreens, founded in Burnie, Tasmania. In 1987 Rose Kemp joined the company and in 2006 Rose and Paul Kemp purchased and took over the business, which had a staff of six.

Over time, the business grew significantly to a team of 25 and became the auto glass repairer of choice for Tasmanians in the North. In 2008 Rose and Paul took on a 'Tint-a-Car' franchise, diversifying and expanding their offering. In 2012 a rebranding and renaming occurred, transitioning from Ability Windscreens to Action Auto Glass. After almost two decades of dedication, innovation, service excellence and success including opening purpose-built workshops in both Burnie and Devonport, Rose and Paul decided to sell to give them more time to focus on their other business and personal interests. Rose and Paul will support the transition of Action Auto Glass to NWG and say they are excited to sell the business to such a customer focussed progressive auto glass business.

Action Auto Glass is the supplier of choice in Tasmania for all major insurance companies, including the home-grown RACT Insurance. Action Auto Glass can repair any vehicle including trucks, coaches and earth moving equipment.

NWG says it will invest heavily in the business to continue to build out competencies to handle the ever-increasing challenges with technology in new cars and trucks. Action will also be expanding its footprint, with news to come about that imminently.

“We are extremely honoured and proud that Rose and Paul chose to sell their business to NWG,” CEO of NWG, Campbell Jones, said.

“The Action Auto Glass business is without doubt pound for pound the most impressive auto glass business I have seen in Australia.

“They have been truly dedicated to this business, which is easy to see in their operational processes, customer satisfaction scores and award-winning accolades. You don’t get Net Promoter Scores in the 90s by chance!”

Kemp, now director of Action Auto Glass and Action Auto Sliders said, “this transition marks a significant milestone for us as a family business that has grown through passion, hard work and the support of our incredible team and loyal customers.”

“We are thrilled to pass the torch to NWG, a company that shares our values of family, integrity and exceptional customer service,” she continued.

“Their people-first approach and strong team culture give us full confidence that our legacy, and more importantly our customers, will be in great hands.”
