BYD, a leader in electric vehicles and a pioneer in battery manufacturing, has announced Stephen Collins as BYD Australia’s chief operating officer, effective immediately.
Collins, an automotive industry stalwart in Australia, has more than 20 years of experience at the executive level working for OEMs including Nissan and Honda, as well as previously acting as a member of the board and treasurer of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
Most recently, Collins served as chief operating officer and director of Honda Australia for over a decade.
With his extensive knowledge of OEM operations and retail networks, BYD says Stephen will play a key leadership role in BYD’s business operations and stakeholder engagement, as the brand transitions to a fully factory backed model and enters an ambitious growth phase in the Australian market.
"I'm excited to join BYD at such a pivotal time in its journey,” Collins said.
“The transition to fully factory backed distribution offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of automotive innovation in Australia.
"With BYD’s global foundation, I’m looking forward to driving long-term growth that results in more Australians experiencing BYD’s cutting-edge technology and commitment to redefining value,” he added.
His addition bolsters BYD Australia’s executive team, following the appointment of its first chief marketing officer, Kate Hornstein, last month.
“Stephen brings a wealth of experience that will be crucial in shaping the next steps of BYD Australia’s future,” BYD Australia general manager, Wing You, said.
“Our team is growing and we think that’s only going to enhance the customer experience for anyone considering a BYD vehicle.”
