As Australia accelerates towards a zero-emission future, the Motor Traders’ Association of New South Wales (MTA NSW) is positioning the automotive industry at the forefront of change.
At Mobility Live 2025 (15–16 October, ICC Sydney), MTA NSW will showcase its leadership in electric vehicle (EV) skills development, safety standards, and workforce capability, highlighting how industry training is key to powering Australia’s sustainable mobility transition.
At the centre of MTA NSW’s exhibit is a live EV training showcase, featuring a working ‘Powerwall’ simulation, advanced EV and hybrid safety demonstrations, and the BYD Sealion 6 electric vehicle, which showcases the latest technology in electric vehicles.
These activities mirror the practical, real-world training delivered through MTA NSW’s Registered Training Organisation, Motor Traders’ Association of New South Wales (Registration Number 90402), to meet changing industry requirements, and are upskilling workers under the AURSS00064 – Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set via the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Training.
“Our focus is on developing the workforce capability required for a safe and successful transition to electric vehicles,” CEO of MTA NSW, Stavros Yallouridis, said.
“This is about ensuring technicians are equipped with the right knowledge, tools, and confidence to work safely and effectively with high-voltage systems, while supporting consumer confidence and the broader uptake of EVs in New South Wales.”
Head of Government Relations and Advocacy at MTA NSW, Collin Jennings, will also join leaders from the automotive and policy sectors on a panel to discuss how training, licensing, and industry standards must evolve in tandem with rapid EV adoption.
“The automotive sector is undergoing its most significant transformation in a century,” Jennings said.
“MTA NSW has played a key role in shaping the forthcoming EV licence framework for NSW, ensuring that only appropriately trained technicians are authorised to work on high-voltage vehicles. This marks an important step towards improving safety, professionalism, and workforce readiness across the state.”
This initiative supports the NSW Government’s net-zero objectives by embedding capability-building into the transition, while aligning industry practice with emerging national standards.
MTA NSW is a Gold Sponsor for Mobility Live, which unites leaders from government, business, and industry to discuss solutions that accelerate the electrification of transport. The event also provides an opportunity for MTA NSW to advocate for a unified, skills-driven approach to EV adoption.
Delegates are invited to visit the MTA NSW stand to explore EV training demonstrations and speak with experts about the future of automotive skills and workforce capability.
