The Motor Trades Association of the ACT (MTA ACT) has been officially relaunched, providing a boost to productivity, skills and support for the ACT’s automotive sector.

Having operated for many years as a volunteer-run organisation, MTA ACT will now be incorporated into the MTA NSW Group umbrella, which includes MTA NSW, MyTradeStart and Motor Trades Care.

The announcement signals a renewed commitment to local businesses and the next generation of automotive professionals in the ACT.

The milestone was celebrated at a launch event on July 29, at the National Museum of Australia, attended by government representatives, industry stakeholders and automotive leaders from across the region.

MTA NSW Group CEO Stavros Yallouridis said the relaunch gives the Australian Capital Territory’s automotive sector greater visibility, influence and practical support during a time of industry change.

“The ACT’s automotive industry supports thousands of local jobs and contributes significantly to the territory's economy,“ he said.

“Bringing MTA ACT into the MTA NSW Group is about ensuring the ACT’s automotive businesses have access to the same level of service, advocacy and training enjoyed by operators across NSW, as the sector navigates the transition to electric vehicles, workforce challenges, and technology-driven change,” Mr Yallouridis said.

The event featured keynote remarks by MLA Government Whip, Member for Brindabella, Caitlin Tough and brought together notable guests, including: Leanne Castley MLA, Leader of the Opposition (Canberra Liberals); Mark Parton MLA, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly; and Fiona Carrick MLA, Member for Murrumbidgee.

The refreshed MTA ACT will focus on the critical issues facing the sector, including skills shortages, the transition to electric vehicles, and small business sustainability, while ensuring the ACT has a seat at the table in national conversations shaping the future of mobility.

“We’re focused on listening to and delivering for ACT businesses,” Yallouridis said.

“With the right training, infrastructure and support, the territory’s automotive industry is well-positioned to lead innovation in EV servicing, advanced diagnostics, and workforce development.”
