Do you have a promising youngster, under 21 years old, working at your business? If so then nominate them for our inaugural Young Achiever Award, sponsored by PPG. Once nominated we'll be in touch to get the nominator to tell us about their Young Achiever's deserving qualities via Survey Monkey.

Thanks to Carl Tinsley from TAFE NSW who has nominated Kieran Southgate.

Southgate has just started the second year of his apprenticeship with Perfect Autobody a prestige Mercedes Benz repairer in Alexandria Sydney.

In 2018 and just six months into his apprenticeship Southgate competed in the TAFE Western Sydney colour matching competition and was judged to be the best colour matcher.

Southgate was then entered in the PPG NSW colour matching competition where he competed against the best colour matching students from each of the NSW TAFE  colleges (these students were experienced third and fourth year apprentices whist Southgate was only 6 months into his apprenticeship). He finished third, a great achievement considering his inexperience, reports Tinsley.

"Southgate has a great work ethic and his work is of a very high standard (it has to be considering that he works on cars that are worth more than my house)," Tinsley says.

Because he has the ability to understand difficult technical concepts and application techniques Southgate is due to complete the formal TAFE training component of his apprenticeship at the end of this year - 12months earlir than would be normally expected.
