The following has been prepared by CAR Carrozzeria journalist Renato Dainotto for the IBIS Global Report. It's a short one but this editor couldn't write a report like this in another language so well done Dainotto.

MARKET OVERVIEW

The Italian market has too many car body repairers which creates a difficult economic situation of too little work shared between too many bodyshops.

Bodyshop trends

The number of car bodyshops is stable. Nowadays we estimate roughly 12,000 bodyshops but less than 5,000 of those have a large presence. We still do not have any big networks but we do now at least have some small associations.

Vehicle manufacturers are moving to create their own network of bodyshop repairers, for example PSA Group (Citroen, Peugeot, DS).

Bodyshop networks are very involved in developing computerised estimating/management systems/ general technology connectivity at the moment.

The job act (the Italian Parliament enabled government to issue a series of labour law reforms during 2015) has proved very popular to encourage young people to join the industry.
