IAG has been honoured at the 12th annual Red Hat innovation awards for its consolidation of its IT infrastructure and its improved agility to deliver services in the market.

The company was recognised for its utilisation of a cloud-based solution to help it find and use data faster and more accurately to provide more relevant and timely services to customers.

The business previously had over 20 data warehouses that it brought under a single platform with IAG reporting that it has reduced both its core claims application platforms and policy systems applications from 16 to just one each.

The consolidation also enabled the company to improve efficiency through self-service and automated capabilities which accelerated development and time to market.

IAG data engineering director Kieran Clulow said the consolidation had revamped their turnaround time after the systems became overly complex following a number of acquisitions.

“IT became a bottleneck. Even a simple change had to be made in many different systems, affecting our ability to actually change and adapt.

“To provision a report in our old environment would take up to a year from end to end. Now our turnaround is a couple of weeks.”
