Glenn O'Donnell is the fourth industry leader to be inducted into the Paint & Panel Hall of Fame, which honours people who have made significant contributions to the collision repair industry. He was a unanimous pick for this year's Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame inductee is selected by previous inductees - Steve O'Brien of iBodyshop, Robin Taylor, Axalta and Carly Ruggeri of Europanels.

Every industry has its champions - the people who don’t just build businesses, but who lift the entire profession around them. And every now and then, this industry produces someone who’s not just part of the journey, but helps redraw the map entirely.

Our Hall of Fame inductee tonight started, like so many greats, on the tools. Back in 1978, he was a fresh-faced apprentice. Four years later, he’d finished his apprenticeship and was contracting his way around the city — a young panel beater with a passion for getting things right.

Contracting allowed him to experience different shops, different systems, different approaches. Those early years shaped a repairer with technical depth, adaptability, and an instinct for how a workshop really works.

By the mid-80s he’d stepped into management, running Top Smash Repairs. Then in 1990 came the role that would shape the next two decades: General Manager of the Alto Group Bodyshops.

He didn’t just run bodyshops — he designed them, built them, and modernised them.  He led the design and construction of two BMW Bodyshops in 1999 and 2002 and later collaborated with Lowbake Australia and BMW Australia on the BMW Melbourne facility — a milestone project that set a new benchmark for prestige repair.

But this is also where another side of his legacy begins.  Because while many people build workshops, very few buildbetter conditions for every other repairer.

Glenn’s contribution, however, extends far beyond facility development. In 2005 he joined the MTA NSW Body Repair Division, his steady, practical style has made him a trusted voice in policy and code discussions. He brings industry experience rather than rhetoric, and has long advocated for fairness, transparency and workable standards. Glenn has also mentored many apprentices and technicians over the years, helping develop skills and safe work habits across multiple generations of repairers.

Today he continues to contribute through positions with MTA NSW, the NSW Code Review Committee, Car Craft NSW and as Chairman of I-CAR Australia. His current businesses, Macarthur Prestige Bodyshop and North Shore BMW Bodyshop, reflect the same focus on capability and standards. North Shore BMW is the only fully equipped BMW carbon repair facility in New South Wales and is a leader in EV repair.

Glenn O’Donnell has helped shape both the workshop floor and the broader industry landscape. His Hall of Fame induction recognises decades of practical leadership and a long-standing commitment to improving conditions and standards for repairers across Australia.
