With fuel prices and cost-of-living pressures continuing to dominate the news cycle, Pickles data shows a clear shift in how Australians are researching and considering their next vehicle purchase.

Pickles has pulled together the latest data from its platform to support reporting on changing consumer behaviour, particularly in relation to electric vehicles.

KEY INSIGHTS FROM PICKLES DATA

EV search demand surges +111%

Search activity for electric vehicles has increased by +111% over the past three weeks compared to the previous period.

Purchase consideration is rising sharply

The number of users adding EVs to their watchlists has grown by +98%, signalling a clear shift from browsing to active purchase consideration.

New audiences entering the EV market

New users to pickles.com.au are up +64%, suggesting a broader pool of Australians actively exploring vehicle options.

High-intent behaviour emerging

Search-led activity is dominating user behaviour, signalling that consumers are actively researching EV options and comparing running costs, rather than passively browsing.

BYD leading the surge in interest

BYD is the standout EV brand, with search interest increasing by +123% (7,614 → 16,955 searches), reaching a new all-time high.

A spokesperson said: "These trends align with what we typically see during periods of rising fuel prices, where buyers reassess total cost of ownership and look more closely at fuel-efficient or electric alternatives – a shift that is now translating into a record month for vehicle sales at Pickles."
