An arrest has been made over the murder Safwan Charbaji, who was the victim of bloody shootout outside A Team Smash Repairs in Condell Park, Sydney in April 2016.

Suspected shooter, Mahmoud "Brownie" Ahmad was arrested swiftly after he touched down at 7.40pm at Sydney Airport on Monday night.

Brownie had been returning home from Lebanon via Doha. An hour after he landed, Brownie was escorted from the airport by two detectives and taken to Mascot Police Station.

The 34-year-old has been charged with murder.

Police have been pursuing Brownie since he was linked to the shooting death of Charbaji in April last year, however he quickly departed for Lebanon shortly after the incident.

In a report by Fairfax Media, Brownie denied that he had fled the country and was on the run.

“Tell the cops to get their facts right first. I'm not running or hiding so f--- off. They can talk shit as much as they want."

The repair shop at which the shootout took place was linked to well-known convicted underworld figure Walid "Wally" Ahmad.

Wally was said to be present at the smash repair business when the well-known Elmir family turned arrived at the business to settle a dispute with the Ahmad family.

Three weeks following the shooting, Wally, a widely feared standover man, was shot dead at Bankstown Central shopping centre.

Since the murders, back and forth revenge attacks have continued in the the area.
