BASF has confirmed a leadership transition for its Coatings division, with Jens Luehring to be appointed CEO following completion of the transaction with Carlyle.

Current President Dr Uta Holzenkamp will continue to lead BASF Coatings until the deal closes, expected in the second quarter of 2026, and will support Luehring to ensure a smooth transition.

The transaction, first announced in October 2025, will see BASF’s automotive OEM coatings, refinish coatings and surface treatment businesses operate as a standalone company.

Holzenkamp, who has led the division since 2022, is credited with guiding the business through the transition phase while maintaining strong customer relationships and operational performance.

Luehring brings more than 20 years’ experience across corporate transformation, carve-outs, mergers and acquisitions, and finance. He has previously held CEO and CFO roles and led the separation and development of major industrial businesses in the United States.

He said he was looking forward to building on the company’s strong market position, global team and established product offering as it moves into its next phase.

The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals.
