Following the wrap up of the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, coatings company Axalta Coating Systems has revealed its role in the festivities; applying its paint to the official ceremony torches.

Axalta applied its Alesta AP Polyester Architectural coating to this year's torches which were made from recycled aluminium.

Wavy lines were incorporated into the torch design to represent the earth, sea and mountains and in addition to the torches, 19,620 units of metal beds were painted using Axalta's Alesta EP Silver Delight II powder coating in the Olympic Village.

Axalta Brazil president Eduardo Nardinelli said it was an honour to be involved in the event.

“Having Axalta products play such a prominent role in this year’s Olympic and Paralympic games in Rio is a testament to the colour, creativity, and durability that thousands of our customers experience every day.

“And the rest of the world got to see that this summer.

“To be able to have our products used on such celebrated and well-recognised icons of the Olympic and Paralympic games has been a great source of pride for our Axalta organisation in Brazil.”
