KGM Australia has launched the Torres Hybrid, its first Hybrid Electric Vehicle. According to the Korean importer, this vehicle will mark the start of a new chapter for KGM as the first hybrid model to enter the line-up.

With its full hybrid system combining an efficient battery and dual electric motors, Torres Hybrid delivers the simultaneous advantages of impressive performance and excellent fuel efficiency.

“We are thrilled to introduce the Torres Hybrid to our line-up. This vehicle represents KGM’s commitment to combining advanced hybrid technology and bold character of the Torres brand, offering drivers an efficient, exciting and accessible way to experience hybrid innovation,” managing director at KGM Australia, Joseph Lee, said.

Powered by a dual-tech hybrid system, this vehicle features two electric motors, each serving a distinct function. Working together with the e-DHT, a hybrid-specific transmission, the system delivers true full hybrid performance by seamlessly combining both series and parallel hybrid operations. This allows it to be driven by the electric motor, the engine, or both simultaneously-while also charging the battery.

For everyday driving, the Torres Hybrid’s advanced architecture allows it to operate primarily in EV mode during city driving – at speeds of up to 100 km/h. When the battery charge is low, the engine automatically starts and functions as a generator in Series mode, recharging the battery while the vehicle continues to drive smoothly in electric mode.

When extra power is required for hard acceleration or uphill sections, the engine will directly connect to the wheels in parallel with the electric drive motor – this is Parallel Mode.

The system features multiple hybrid driving modes, automatically selecting the optimal configuration to maximise performance and efficiency. It’s an advanced piece of technology that operates completely seamlessly, requiring no driver input – sophisticated, intelligent, and effortlessly effective.

With its high capacity 130kW motor positioned close to the drive shaft and 300Nm of torque, acceleration is instant, smooth and remarkably quiet. The overall result is an EV-like driving feel, paired with the long-range reliability of a hybrid.

Torres Hybrid has undergone advanced vehicle dynamics development, incorporating new shock absorbers with Smart Frequency Damping (SFD). This technology allows precise tuning to control larger body movements whilst providing more compliant damping over rough surfaces. This result is improved ride comfort and handling stability as the suspension seamlessly adapts to varying road conditions.

Further enhancements to ride comfort include the reinforcement of sound-absorbing and insulating materials in key noise transmission areas such as the engine compartment, engine cover, and wheel arches, effectively reducing both road and engine noise.

The stylish exterior is retained while subtly distinguishing it from its ICE sibling; the Torres Hybrid has new alloy wheel designs, a black C-pillar, and a HYBRID emblem on the tailgate.

Two model grades will be available from launch, the entry-level K30 and the higher-grade K40.
