The Auto Glass Association (AGA) and TAFE NSW has issued some good news for auto glass technicians.

From June this year, technicians with more than three years' experience will be eligible to undertake a Recognised Prior Learning Program (RPL) program as part of the Certificate III in Automotive Glazing Technology.

Developed by the AGA and TAFE NSW, the online program aims to cut out study time for those who have a broad experience in the field.

AGA president Murray McGrath said that RPL should build upon existing skills acquired by technicians.

“One of the AGA’s first priorities was to create a program that acknowledges someone’s on-the-job training and existing skillset.

“TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, our partners in this project, developed a robust evidence-based system that meets this objective and in doing so, expedites and simplifies the Certificate III process.

“We’re proud to say industry certification is now more attainable than ever before.”

TAFE NSW Riverina Institute head of department automotive believes the course has also been designed for wider application to other sections of the industry.

“We designed this program specifically for the auto glass industry, but the potential for application to other areas is extensive.

“The idea was always to create a system that recognises the applicant’s knowledge and training to date, we just had to develop a stringent verification process to ensure the integrity of the certificate.”

RPL for Certificate III follows on from a range of online technical causes launched by the AGA last year.
