The heart of the Mirka CEROS is a patented design brushless electric motor. Despite being rated at 400 watts, it provides efficient, real-world performance that Mirka says is comparable to a conventional electric tool with a rating of over 500 watts, and maintains a constant speed even when the machine is under heavy load.
Simple operating controls make it easy for the user to vary the speed between 4000rpm and 10,000rpm, and there’s a smooth start function and a built-in electronic motor brake. Because the CEROS motor uses no carbon brushes, it emits no sparks and is virtually silent and vibration-free. As there aren’t many wearing components, it’s low maintenance, reliable and has a long lifespan.
The CEROS comes with a double insulated power supply, which reduces AC mains voltage to just 22 Volt DC input to make it a safer, low-voltage machine. As it is electric, it can be used anywhere a power source is available. Mika says the unit offers many advantages in comparison to pneumatic machines. There’s no need for a bulky compressor, the CEROS doesn’t require oiling, and there’s no risk of job contamination from a compressed air supply. The company also says that comparison trials have shown that this electric tool is more cost-efficient to run.
Light and easy to manoeuvre
The compact electric motor makes it very light, and ergonomic styling ensures it’s comfortable to grip and easy to manoeuvre with only one hand, even when sanding vertical surfaces and hard-to-reach areas. When used for long periods it’s kind to joints and muscles, resulting in more precise, fatigue-free sanding and greater control over the end finish.
The CEROS teams with Mirka’s industrial vacuum cleaner, which produces powerful, adjustable suction to efficiently extract high volumes of dust from the work area. It also features an automatic electric start and a special bracket to mount the CEROS power supply. A comprehensive range of Mirka abrasives, tools and accessories are available from PPG Plus distributors.
