Chery J11 scored zero for passenger chest and upper and lower leg safety in the offset test.

Chery J11 becomes the only ANCAP two-star car in Australia

The Chery J11 SUV scored just 16.49 out of 37 and rates only two ANCAP stars.

ANCAP reported that in the frontal offset crash test the passenger compartment lost structural integrity with the front A pillar moving backwards 133mm. A gap between the window frame and door frame posed the risk of partial ejection for the driver. The steering column and dash components could also injure passengers in this kind of collision.

ANCAP had planned to conduct a side impact test but was advised by the manufacturer that a recall campaign had been initiated that would affect the side impact protection. Delays resulting from the recall campaign and concerns about poor performance in the offset test, led ANCAP to publish an interim rating based on the maximum score that the vehicle could achieve in the side impact test.

A vehicle needs to score at least 4.5 in the offset test to do better than a two-star rating. The J11 scored just three for head and neck and zero for chest, upper legs, and lower legs.
