Bodyshops are invited to be part of a new iPhone and Android smart phone app called Smash Assist – Accident Help which could direct more smash repair business to workshops identified in the app by Google maps.

The free Smash Assist app is designed to help iPhone and Android smart phone users in the event of a vehicle accident. The app reminds people of all the right steps and ensures that all relevant information is collected including the accident details, vehicle description contact details of all involved, and insurance details.

Smash Assist has been designed by Geoff Bedford of Smash Care in Brisbane.
“It has been my belief that body shops needed to gain more control on where vehicles involved in accidents ended up and not be directed by the insurance company,” he said.
“The Smash Assist app will give the vehicle owner the opportunity to have some say on where their car goes to,” he added.

For users in NSW, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Victoria and Tasmania, the nearest Smash Assist repair shop can be identified or alternatively, given a direct connection to a nominated tow truck service.

However Bedford is aiming for national coverage and is inviting body shops to sign up now that the iPhone work is completed. Android versions are currently in development. So far, 21 bodyshops have signed up – 10 in Queensland, three in Victoria, one in Tasmania and seven in New South Wales.

If you sign up to the Smash Assist contact service, the application menu can be modified so that when the user hits ‘call nearest smash assist repairer’ option the Google maps in their smart phone links to the smash location.

There is a license fee of $420.00 per annum ($35 per month) as well as a one off set up fee of $350. The total cost for the first year is expected to be $770 (inc GST).
