Spare a thought for the hardworking research and development engineers at precision spray equipment manufacturer SATA. After each new generation of the company’s renowned SATAjet spray gun is released, the R&D team is handed the task of improving it yet again.
That’s no mean feat, particularly when they were looking to improve on the SATAjet 3000 B, which came with a long list of outstanding features that made it extremely popular. Having faced this type of assignment countless times since SATA began designing and manufacturing spray guns in 1925, the R&D team once again met the challenge and created the SATAjet 4000 B.
In fact, SATA says, they’ve managed to pack in a host of improvements designed to help painters do their job smarter and give them the ability to produce better results with less effort. For example, it’s now easier to adjust the air micrometer knob, the material flow control and the round/flat spray control even while wearing gloves. A complete redesign of the round/flat control allows it to be quickly and precisely adjusted from full round to full flat with just a quarter of a turn.
New nozzle concept
As well as offering two new nozzle sizes (HVLP 1.3C and RP 1.2W), a whole new nozzle concept was also developed to better suit modern paint systems. The consistent, perfectly shaped spray fan ensures material is applied softly and evenly, making it ideal for basecoats and clearcoats. Even at rapid application speeds the even paint distribution produces an excellent finish, greater colour matching accuracy and higher gloss.
With a material transfer rate in excess of 65 per cent, it can even help reduce material usage. SATA’s R&D team even made sure the 4000 B was easier to clean thanks to redesigned fluid tip seals and a shortened air cap thread that reduces disassembly time.
Ergonomic design has always been a SATA forte and the latest generation is no different. Features include distinctive, modern styling that fits perfectly into the hand, a low centre of gravity which improves balance and a substantial 15 per cent weight reduction over its predecessor.
When fitted with the integrated digital pressure readout and RPS disposable cup, the SATAjet 4000 B is the lightest spray gun in its class.
