Holden has introduced a new repair kit designed to eliminate the need to replace the spare wheel well carrier of the VE Commodore in the event of a light rear impact.
The two parts required to make the repair are the bracket repair kit – Part No. 92253748 and urethane adhesive – Part No 92146444 or equivalent GM Spec, GMW3041 (HN2293). The kit is suitable for all VE Sedan and Wagon models, as well as the WM Caprice.
1. Once the bumper has been removed, clean up and de-burr the remainder of the original mount using a file and sandpaper. Remove all loose matter and wipe clean with Prepsol.
2. Dummy fit the new bracket to make sure it fits over the damaged mount. You may need to adjust the bracket, using a pair of pliers.
3. Apply an even amount of urethane adhesive to the inside of the new bracket, as well as the existing bracket on the wheel well.
4. The bracket can now be attached to the damaged wheel well bracket. Ensure the adhesive is spread evenly and is clear of the mounting holes on the bottom.
5. Once brackets have been stuck into place, use masking tape to support brackets and adhesive to cure for 24 hours.
6. With the sealant cured, the bracket is ready for the bumper to be re-attached.The full illustrations for each step can be found on the Paint and Panel website in the news section.
