NSW MTA CEO James McCall believes cars will get cheaper and hydrogen technology is the most interesting development in the industry.
"With changing technology, the technology is getting better and better," he said.
"I think you're going to see cars get cheaper, with China coming into the market, India coming into the market; the manufacturers becoming more efficient in production terms.
"I think vehicles are going to get cheaper and that's obviously going to be good for the market, and you can also see through the trend in the sale of small cars over larger cars, that people are very conscious of the cost of running a vehicle and I think that is going to affect us in the future, that they're going to be looking for economy in a vehicle.
"Now, some of the car manufacturers, like Honda for instance, have spent hundreds of millions of dollars researching hydrogen technology and they’ve made great progress there.
"Hydrogen technology is very, very cost-efficient and environmentally friendly. All it produces is a couple of drops of water.
"So it's the most interesting technology under development and they've had giant success with this in the last 12 months and I think in five years' time you're going to see a big shift towards hydrogen motor vehicles."
