Damaged plastic components such as bumpers, spoilers, skirts, and composite panels are still often changed without thought, when they could be repaired.
All major car manufacturers release repair procedures on plastic bumpers, and these are simple to follow, says Teroson.
Extent of damage
There are varying degrees of damage on plastic parts.
Cosmetic damage can be scratches, small cracks, and tears. Dismantling of the part for assessment on this damage isn’t necessary. Repairs can undertaken in situ.
Structural damage: Not only is the surface substrate damaged, but there is also deformation of the elements lying behind (plastic parts, polystyrene, aluminium supports). You will need to dismantle to discover the total extent of the damage and the repair needed.
Extensive deformation: A repair is not recommended; the component needs replacing.
According to Mathew Pascoe of Teroson, the Teroson plastic repair system is not only the easiest and most versatile on the market, but carries the approval of the majority of the major vehicle manufacturers. In addition, Teroson consultants are available to conduct on-site demonstrations of the system.
