Sherwin-Williams has reported strong second-quarter financial results, raising its full-year earnings outlook after delivering higher sales, improved profitability and continued market share gains despite ongoing economic uncertainty.
The global coatings manufacturer reported net sales of US$6.79 billion for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, an increase of 7.5 per cent compared with the same period last year. Diluted earnings per share rose 14.3 per cent to US$3.43, while adjusted diluted earnings per share increased 9.5 per cent to US$3.70.
Chair, president and chief executive officer Heidi Petz said the company continued to outperform the market despite subdued demand across many end markets.
"Sherwin-Williams delivered strong second quarter results and continued to outperform the market despite ongoing global uncertainty and no meaningful improvement in demand," Petz said.
"Sales improvement was driven by continued growth investments, new account wins and increased share of wallet, and exceeded guidance on a consolidated basis and across all three reportable segments."
Sherwin-Williams said higher sales were recorded across all three of its operating segments, supported by the contribution from the Suvinil acquisition completed in late 2025, as well as continued organic growth.
Of particular interest to the automotive sector, the Performance Coatings Group recorded higher sales across all businesses. Automotive refinish coatings posted high-single-digit sales growth, matching the performance of the company's General Industrial business, while packaging, industrial wood and coil coatings also delivered solid gains.
The company said pricing initiatives introduced to offset higher raw material costs, together with increased sales volumes and market share gains, helped improve profitability during the quarter.
Sherwin-Williams generated US$1.49 billion in operating cash flow during the first half of the year and returned US$2.23 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases.
Reflecting its stronger first-half performance, the company increased its full-year guidance. Sherwin-Williams now expects 2026 net sales to increase by a mid- to high-single-digit percentage and has lifted its adjusted diluted earnings per share forecast to between US$11.80 and US$12.20.
Petz said the revised outlook reflected confidence in the company's strategy despite ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty.
"We are pleased with our first-half performance and the momentum we are carrying into the second half of the year," she said.
"Our confidence is grounded in the strength of our team, our customer relationships, our differentiated model and our proven ability to deliver."
