When Mitchell Haddad first saw the building that would become Sharpline Smash Repairs’ new home, he knew almost immediately that he had found the right place.
The former IAG Motorsserve site offered the access, space and potential he had been searching for. But after Sharpline had outgrown two previous premises in little more than a decade, simply moving into a larger building wasn’t enough.
This time, Haddad had the opportunity to rethink how the entire business operated.
Central to that vision was the paint department, where Sharpline worked with Dave Moraghan from Pan Spraybooths to develop a layout designed around the way vehicles actually move through the repair process.
Rather than installing an off-the-shelf solution, the project resulted in two customised drive-through spray booths integrated into a paint department designed to maximise available space while improving productivity.
Technology also plays an important role, with the Australian-made booths incorporating sophisticated controls and airflow management alongside carefully considered lighting and finishing touches.
But the real test of the project isn’t simply how impressive the new workshop looks.
Since moving into the facility, Sharpline has significantly increased weekly repair throughput, while creating a more organised workflow that allows work to begin on tomorrow’s vehicles before today’s have left the building.
The result demonstrates what can happen when workshop design, equipment and workflow are considered as one complete system.
