Australia’s collector vehicle market is gathering pace, with Retro Rides Auctions announcing it has transitioned from a monthly to a weekly online auction format in response to growing buyer demand both locally and overseas.
From this month, the Australian collector, classic and enthusiast vehicle auction platform will launch fresh auctions every week, allowing buyers to browse, track and bid on new listings on a continual basis rather than waiting for monthly sales.
RR Auctions said the change reflects increasing activity in the collector vehicle sector, with Australian-listed vehicles attracting stronger interest from international buyers.
The announcement follows two recent overseas sales, including an exceptionally rare 1998 Subaru Impreza WRX STI 22B that was purchased by a North American collector after achieving what RR Auctions says was the strongest Australian result for the model since 2022. Only 424 examples of the limited-edition Subaru were produced worldwide.
The platform also recently facilitated the sale of the famous 1978 Pontiac Firebird from the television series The Rockford Files, which was also purchased by a North American buyer following a record auction result.
RR Auctions head of sales Joshua Wygoda said the move to weekly auctions reflected changing expectations from both buyers and sellers.
“We’re seeing more quality vehicles coming to market and more buyers actively looking and checking in every week,” Wygoda said.
“Weekly auctions allow us to respond to that demand. Sellers can get their vehicles to market faster, while buyers have fresh opportunities each week to access the new, curated listings that are hitting the platform continuously.”
Upcoming auctions will feature a diverse range of modern performance cars, classics and collector vehicles, including a 2025 Lotus Emira First Edition, 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo, 2015 Audi R8 V10, 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT, 1995 Dodge Viper RT/10, 1973 Ford Escort Mk1, 2012 FPV GT and a 1971 Ford XW Fairmont GT, along with heritage number plates.
Wygoda said collectors continued to seek vehicles with quality, provenance and transparency, regardless of where they were located.
RR Auctions said every vehicle listed on the platform continues to receive professional photography and detailed presentation, while buyers and sellers complete Australian Government-authorised identity verification. The company also continues to offer zero per cent seller commission as it expands its presence in Australia’s growing collector vehicle market.
