Queensland recorded its strongest June for new vehicle sales on record last month, with industry figures showing electrified vehicles accounted for almost half of all new cars sold across the state, according to MTA Queensland.
A total of 29,347 new vehicles were delivered during June, up 6.4 per cent on the same month last year and contributing to a national record of 140,058 new vehicle sales.
MTA Queensland said zero and low emission vehicles (ZLEVs) captured a record 43.1 per cent of the state's market during the month, almost doubling their market share compared with June 2025. The organisation attributed the growth to rising consumer demand, volatile fuel prices and an increasingly competitive range of electrified vehicles.
Chief executive officer Rod Camm said the June figures marked a significant milestone for Queensland's automotive industry.
"This is a month that rewrote the record books," Camm said.
"Queensland consumers are choosing electrified vehicles at a rate and scale that has surpassed almost every forecast.
"Nearly one in every two new vehicles sold in Queensland in June featured an electrified drivetrain."
Across the first six months of 2026, MTA Queensland said electrified vehicles accounted for 36.3 per cent of all new vehicle sales in the state, representing 47,693 units and a 55.3 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025. Battery electric vehicles led the growth, recording 4,988 sales in June, up 226 per cent year-on-year.
Toyota remained Queensland's best-selling brand during the first half of 2026 with 21,494 sales, ahead of BYD, Mazda, Ford and Hyundai. The Toyota HiLux continued as the state's top-selling vehicle, followed by the Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max.
