Another new automotive brand is preparing to enter the Australian market, with Chery Group’s Lepas confirming its L6 electric SUV will launch locally in October.
The mid-size L6 EV will become the first Lepas model offered in Australia and will introduce the brand’s new intelligent LEX platform, which has been developed to underpin a range of electrified vehicles.
Lepas Australia chief operating officer Lucas Harris said the L6 represented an important first step for the new brand.
“The L6 represents an exciting new chapter for our business and marks the arrival of Lepas in Australia,” Harris said.
“The L6 is an important first step for the brand, offering a compelling combination of style, technology, comfort and EV performance in one of Australia’s most competitive vehicle segments.”
Power comes from a 65kWh lithium iron phosphate battery developed using Chery Group battery technology. A front-mounted electric motor produces 160kW and 275Nm, driving the front wheels.
Lepas claims a WLTP driving range of 440km and energy consumption of 17.5kWh/100km. DC fast charging can take the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes.
The LEX platform has been designed to accommodate both battery electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains and combines an advanced electrical architecture with electric propulsion and intelligent chassis technology.
Inside, the L6 features an 8.88-inch digital driver display and 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Sony sound system and 50W wireless smartphone charging.
Heated and ventilated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and powered tailgate are also included.
Driver assistance technology includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, Lane Departure Prevention, seven airbags and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.
Automatic Parking Assist allows the vehicle to steer itself into reverse, parallel and perpendicular parking spaces, while Remote Parking Assist is also included.
Australian buyers will get their first look at the L6 EV at Everything Electric at Sydney Olympic Park from September 18-20.
Pricing and further details will be announced ahead of the Australian launch in October.
