One of the biggest names in automotive refinish has a new identity.
BASF Coatings has officially launched as Surventis, completing its transition to an independent company following its carve-out from BASF. The business is majority-owned by global investment firm Carlyle, in partnership with Qatar Investment Authority, while BASF retains a 40% stake.
The move creates one of the world's largest dedicated coatings companies, with annual sales of around €3.9 billion, approximately 10,700 employees and more than 42,000 customers across 140 countries.
For collision repairers, it's business as usual. Surventis says the products, technologies, technical support teams and brands customers rely on today, including Glasurit, R-M and Chemetall, remain unchanged.
Chief executive Jens Luehring said becoming an independent company would allow Surventis to move faster while continuing to build on more than 130 years of coatings expertise. "Our customers will benefit from a faster, more focused partner, with our full attention on the surfaces they make and sell. Their success is our success," he said.
Surventis will continue to focus on automotive refinish, automotive OEM coatings and surface treatment technologies, with Steve Arndt leading the global refinish coatings business.
