ANCAP has issued a consumer alert after identifying that KGM Musso EV dual-cab utes supplied to Australian customers allegedly do not have two airbags that were previously advertised as standard equipment.
According to ANCAP, locally supplied Musso EVs are not fitted with either a centre airbag or driver knee airbag, despite KGM marketing materials allegedly listing the safety features as part of a standard suite of eight airbags.
The battery-electric Musso EV entered the Australian market in November 2025, with approximately 306 vehicles sold to the end of July this year.
ANCAP said it identified the alleged omission and has warned existing owners that their vehicle's safety specification may differ from what was advertised.
According to ANCAP, the absence of the two airbags may have an effect on occupant safety in frontal and side-impact crashes.
A centre airbag is generally positioned on the inboard side of the driver's seat and is designed to help reduce injury during side impacts. A driver's knee airbag, where fitted, is located below the steering column and helps manage occupant movement and loading during a crash.
ANCAP said KGM had been notified of the issue and had advised the safety organisation that affected marketing materials were updated by July 31 to reflect the actual specification of vehicles being sold.
ANCAP has also encouraged KGM to make a production change to fit centre and driver knee airbags to Australian-delivered Musso EVs.
Existing owners concerned about their vehicle have been advised to contact KGM Australia or their local KGM dealer, while potential new and used Musso EV buyers are being urged to familiarise themselves with the vehicle's actual safety specification.
The consumer alert applies only to the battery-electric Musso EV and not the diesel-powered KGM Musso, which has been sold locally since 2019.
Neither the KGM Musso EV nor diesel Musso currently carries an ANCAP safety rating.
